Recently, a video of the female bishop of the Episcopal Church went viral. She made some political statements on immigration during a national prayer gathering attended by former President Trump. Naturally, this sparked a lot of conversation. But what really caught my attention was how it reignited the debate about women being ordained as priests. As always, some people—especially on the far left—used this opportunity to criticize the Catholic Church’s stance on not ordaining women. They threw out claims like, “The Church hates women,” or, “It’s trying to protect the patriarchy,” or even, “The Church thinks women aren’t capable of being priests.”
Honestly, I can see why someone might believe that at first glance, but these claims couldn’t be further from the truth. So today, let’s clear up these misconceptions and dive into the real reasons why the Catholic Church doesn’t ordain women to the priesthood.
